So far our black bears have not been around much this season.
Three times one of them has been here, but we did not see it.
Only the bent rods, or feeders down on ground, and we had to go searching for one of them.
Diamondavid, who lives in Iowa and maintains my website, has been coming here to our home for three years now. And he was so wanting to see a bear, and finally he has. And he made some decisions.
It was four AM in the morning and still dark outside. My hubby Joe was getting ready for work, when the motion lights came on. He went to see what was moving around and saw this huge bear.
He woke David up first. Then he woke me up.
I came into the living room, looked at the bear, and then looked at David. His eyes were bigger then saucers LOL!
He kept saying that bear is HUGE. The bear heard us all talking, but just kept
doing what he could to get a feeder down off the ten foot high pole. We are sure it was Rascal, because of his demeanor, and he was used to Joe's and my voices.
Finally he got a feeder down by bouncing against the pole. He looked around, and looked sooooo quilty. He sneaked over to the feeder, and slowly took it down into the woods. We waited to see if he would return.
It was a few minutes when we saw this sneaky bear slowly come out from behind the trees. Very alert but very sneaky as David pointed out.
Then David talked to him, and the bear decided, it was time to leave. But not until he got another feeder LOL. Guess he didn't recognize David's voice.
The bear didn't run, he just slowly walked back down into the woods with his feeder.
It is exciting to watch these animals. David was so enthralled seeing him. But the one decision he made was -- that he and our boxer girl Lilah, won't be sleeping out under the stars. NO WAY he said LOL!

Just had to say this was the first
time seeing a bear up close and OMG!
The way he moved is what caught my attention 'SLOW. And the sheer POWER. And what Military stated 'LOOK HOW GUILTY HE LOOKS Hehe! And he sure did.
Like he said (Guilty) written all over his forehead LOL! He had knocked the feeder off the pole when he stood up placing his paws on the STEEL pole. Just Pushing and pushing until it bent over. UNREAL the power and strength. It would take TEN MEN or more to do this. I couldn't believe it. THEN he looked at us, and put the feeder in his mouth, then came the VERY SNEAKY LOOK and GUILTY manner. VERY slowly walking into the woods. Looking back at us SOOO FUNNY! Then like Bluejay said, here he comes 'BACK for another feeder. SLOWLY and powerful, looking all around until he had reach the feeder only THREE FEET out from the BIg Bay Window. Hummer had mentioned she had talked to him before, and stayed. 'BUT I thought ok I can TOO! AH! NOOO!! Wasn't a good Idea. He heard me say! 'WHY ARE YOU STEALING THE FEEDER? He looked at ME 'more or less 'Sayin NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS' Hehe! GUESS WHAT? I AGREE HEHEH!!! This was a very KQQL encounter with a BEAR which I wont ever forget THAT"S FOR SURE LOL!
Since David has been here, we have only seen one other bear. A young bear who was roaming around our yard checking out the territory.
And we know there were bears around two other times though we only saw the handpump laying on it's side, and some other noticeable things. But we didn't see the bears.
It has been a very quiet summer compared to a couple years ago. I imagine because of all the logging in our area. And soon our bears will be going into their partial hibernation. So till next year, so long from our peaceful mountain
