This is our Pampas Grass bush.
Back in the late seventies when I lived in my other house
there lived an elderly lady in a little house
across from me. The only way she had water in her house
was a hand pump in her kitchen sink.
She was a very devoted
Pentecostal lady, who had her own garden. She had a dog
named Skippy and I was the only person he would let
near him. Mrs Koppenhaver also had a row of
Pampas Grass along the road side. When she passed away
and the new owner took over they were ripping out the
Pampas Grass, so I hurried over and asked for one
of the small bushes. Today it is a huge beautiful bush.
It is tough and is pest-resistant.
It is also highly drought-resistant and,
once established, never needs watering.
It attracts wildlife. birds, and small mammals.
Anytime you grow something big and dense, you are encouraging
wildlife in your neighborhood. And living on a mountain
we have lots of wildlife, and some like to
hide in or under this bush.
