There was a time, not so long ago,
when there was a special day called "Christmas".
Christmas Day came but once a year,
being celebrated on December 25th.,
through special church services;
the giving of gifts; sending
"Merry Christmas" greeting cards;
and family and friends gathering together
around a "Christmas" tree.
How people loved that very special holiday.
It was a solemn,
peaceful time of blessed joy.
It was a time when families and friends
shared their Christian love with everyone.
They would trod through woodland,
or go to their favorite road side stand or store,
for that special Christmas tree.
They would adorn it with lights,
topped with a star or angel.
Towns and cities would put a huge
Christmas Tree in the town square,
and people went caroling Christmas Eve,
to those who were homebound,
or in nursing homes, or hospitals.
Some would tell the story
of the birth in a stable,
of a very special baby boy.
Now all we find are mostly HOLIDAY cards,
decorations, or winter themes.
And our beloved "CHRISTMAS" tree
becomes a holiday tree.
Many stores advertise Holiday Season and not Christmas season
Some day there may be
no Merry Christmas signs
Our school children can't
put on a "Christmas" play.
Now It is called a Winter concert
There are those who want to be rid of the
"Christmas Star" and the "Christmas" angels.
No more nativity, with little children
and baby lambs, and the Christ child,
in plain view.
No more sounds of Christmas bells,
or carols being sung on the streets.
Hearing Salvation Army bells ringing for donations, to
help the poor, now forbidden at most stores.
My Friends:
"Christmas" is a time to reflect
on the birth of a new born babe.
Jesus is his name.
"Christmas" is the Virgin Mary, Joseph,
the three wise men,
and a guiding star in the sky.
"Christmas" is choirs
of earth angels singing Hallelujah.
"Christmas" is the heart and soul of Christianity.
Won't it be sad if one day,
it may be taken away from us?
And Christmas becomes a word
in history, of a day that used to be.
Will it some day, come to pass that we tell the children,
grandchildren and all future generations
About a day we used
to celebrate in December, called "Christmas?"
I pray that this will not happen.
